How did you get started in fitness?

I initially got interested in fitness to make myself a better basketball player. My sophomore year of college I wanted to make myself standout from my teammates and the competition so I started expanding my fitness routine to get better on and off the court. From there I fell in love with working out and still love it today.

What motivated you to change your body and the way you look?

When I started working out I did it so that I could become a better player. When I started to see the change in the way I looked and felt, I continually motivated myself to become better. When you start seeing results, you always strive to see more results. So I continually strive to push myself to look good and feel good.

What is your favorite workout routine? And what workout routine works best for you?

I love super setting workouts together. For example if I was going to lift chest, back and core all in one day I would make all three lifts into one big circuit. This makes it not only fun but if I am working out with someone else we can turn it into a competition.

(Note from Dennis: Levi and myself are constantly competing in the weight room still to this day when we see each other. Competition is a great way to get motivated to continually get better and push yourself to new levels!)

What does your diet look like?

I love eating vegetables. I will eat as many vegetables as I want with as much variety as I can every single day. I will also eat a lot of protein, healthy carbs, and nuts. I limit my sugar intake to a few fruits a day. All other sugar is cut out of my diet. I feel that if I never cheat on sugar I can cheat a little bit with other foods (i.e fats and carbs). I try to drink only water and the occasional green tea. I make sure that the only calories I am consuming are coming from the food that I am eating.

If you could pick only five exercises to do, what would they be?

1. Pull-Ups

2. Push-Ups

3. Lunges

4. Squats

5. Burpees

I love bodyweight exercises because you can do them anywhere, anytime.

What is you preference when it comes to doing cardio?

I believe that in order to reach your full potential you need to mix high intensity training into your regimen. So I try to make sure that I am going as hard as I can with many different exercises and workouts.

I will time myself with certain exercises so that I can see how many reps I can get in a certain amount of time. I will also do that so I have a number to beat the next time I do the same exercises or workouts.

What supplements do you take?

I will take protein throughout my day but the only real supplement I have taken is NO Explode. I don’t especially like taking supplements because if you eat well then your food will provide all the nutrients you need to max out. That being said, supplements do allow for myself to reach another level when I am working out. So I will take a supplement for three months then take nothing for three months. That way I am not reliant on anything.

What advice would you give others just starting on their fitness journey?

Set goals. It is impossible to reach your goals if you haven’t set any. I set long-term goals (body fat percentage, weight, number of reps, etc.) as well as short term daily goals (beat last weeks reps/time, work harder than my workout partner, etc). My goals allow for me to shoot for something every day rather than focusing on not wanting to be there. I am always getting better!

What motivates you each day to keep going?

My workout partner. I have a great workout partner who is at my level in nearly every workout I do. We constantly push each other to get better every day and motivate each other to reach our full potentials. Working out on your own is just plain hard, so I would encourage others to find someone that they can battle with everyday.

Any inspirational quotes you want to share?

  • “Work Now, Victory Later” -Fred Crowell

I love this quote because it reminds me that if I just focus on the hard work then the results will come.

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be?

What has been your biggest accomplishment in terms of fitness?

My energy level. I love how much energy I have everyday. Because of my diet and fitness routines, I am able to have long lasting energy throughout the whole day. I rarely get tired and this enables me to make the most of every single day.

(Note from Dennis: Levi is on another level when it comes to having energy! In the weight room he is always the most energetic and is always firing himself and others up.)

What is the biggest fitness “myth” that you hear or see people doing everyday?

That working out gives you the right to eat whatever you want. If you want to see results you should pair up a healthy diet with your workouts. If you don’t you are only winning 33% of the battle. Diet is HUGE!
