“Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny.”
You have been there done that with the whole exercise thing… You have tried year after year, month after month, week after week to start a new routine only to quit a few weeks or a few days in.
Trust me, I have been where you are… See, I personally have gone through periods of time when I wondered if I was ever going to feel like working out again… Exercising is not easy. It takes effort, consistency, hard work, focus, and more.
Yet each and every day we read about someone who went from zero to hero within just a few months span because of being consistent with their workouts.
I want you to experience this. That is why I have put together this list of 5 steps to help make exercise a daily habit so you can reach your goals and start living a healthier, better life.
1. Choose the best time of day for you to workout
This step is huge. Each day you should have a set time in your schedule placed as “workout time.” Even if it is an off day, honor that time by walking, going for a short hike, stretching, etc. Especially in the beginning, this will force you to stick to your schedule each and everyday.
This does not mean you are to workout everyday but you will be staying very consistent everyday. So find the time that works, put it in your calendar and make it happen.
2. Find a routine that works for you
Do you know what one of the top reasons people stop working out is? They don’t like their workouts or routine. It is either too hard, too demanding, too time consuming, too boring, too easy, etc.
Everyone is different and that is why it is very important you choose something that fits you, your schedule, and personality. Although I advocate strength training, some people simply do not like weights. I get that.
Then do bodyweight exercises or kettlebell workouts. There are plenty of different options to choose from.
Find one you love and you will stick with it for months at a time.
A few suggestions to help keep you coming back in the future when choosing a routine:
1. Pick a routine that fits your fitness level.
2. Keep your workouts to 3-4 days per week
3. Keep all workouts under 30 minutes
4. Do something you enjoy, that will challenge you and deliver results.
Do those four things and you will find success in your workouts.

3. Walk, do yoga, or stretch on off days
I touched on this in number one, but this deserves a number of its own. When first starting out, I tell people to stick with their “workout time” 7 days a week. Why? Because then it becomes habit more quickly.
For example, lets say you were going to strength train 3 days per week at 5:30AM. Well the other four days of the week you should do something active at 5:30AM to make this routine a habit more quickly. Simply walking these four days will work.
4. Just focus on your workouts at the beginning
It is very difficult to change multiple habits at once. This is the reason people struggle to change exercise and healthy eating at the same time. However, by focusing on one first the other will quickly follow.
When you start exercising regularly, you will notice that very soon after your eating patterns start to become more healthy. So don’t even worry about nutrition at first. Focus on your workouts alone, then start changing your nutrition after working out becomes a routine.
5. Don’t allow yourself to skip a day
This may be the most important point I make. Skipping a day can and will trigger you to start skipping regularly.
It is very easy to say, “well I have been good the last 5 days and deserve this.” Don’t allow this to happen.
If anything, go out and get your walk in to keep the routine going.
Taking these five simple steps will ensure that you never miss a workout and help turn exercise into a daily habit.
